THE PETER KOENIG COLLECTION
The Minisink Valley Historical Society is pleased to partner with well-known area artist Peter Koenig and offer a limited collection of prints and signboards for sale to collectors, historians and those with fine taste. Peter Koenig has been featured for three consecutive years, 2007, 2008, 2009 in Early American Life magazine's Annual Directory of Traditional American Crafts as one of the best artisans in America. For every purchase Mr. Koenig will donate a percentage of the sale to the Society to assist it efforts to promote the preservation of the region's heritage. By clicking on the images to the left you will be taken directly to Mr. Koenig's web site where you can order the items listed.
About Peter Koenig. . . .
Peter Koenig's creative interest began at an early age. His parents encouraged and shared their artistic abilities with their three sons. His mother's influence was most inspiring and long lasting.
Peter's artistic passion has taken many different forms of expression over the years. His career began with early department store display work in New York City. He was employed for many years as a graphic artist for a large pharmaceutical company while working independently for private clients who commissioned Peter for paintings, murals, and historical finishes.
In 1998, he became a founding member of the ARTery Gallery in historic Milford, Pennsylvania. In this new venue, he exhibited his passion for painting various subjects from folk art to modern pieces. His love of history, and interest in early American signs was discovered by local restauranteurs, Rachael and Steve Scro of Sparta, New Jersey, who commissioned Koenig's work for their restaurant, Mohawk House. An extensive collection of Koenig's early signs are displayed there.
In November 2006, his excellent work earned him a place in the Wilton Historical Society's American Craftsmanship Show in Connecticut. Then, in 2007, his creative talents and attention to historical accuracy were recognized by the Early American Life magazine. This was most rewarding.
In addition to his wall art, Koenig creates period-painted finishes on early American furniture in apple green, mustard, blue, and red for the Duckloe Furniture Company in Portland, Pennsylvania. By using his special materials and aging technique, he is able to achieve a real sense of antiquity.
The artist resides and works in Orange County, New York, from his barn-like studio. Peter credits his wife, Nancy; mother-in-law, Myrtle; son, Tim; good friends; and loyal clients for his longevity in the field.

OFFICIAL ERIE RAILROAD DRAWINGS MAPS OF PORT JERVIS - Several years ago the Society was given a set of original maps and drawings of the Erie Railroad's properties and facilities in the City of Port Jervis. Through the generosity of William Doyle, a member of the Society, we were able to reproduce these drawings and are now pleased to offer copies of them for sale, the first time they have been available to the general public. The descriptions, sizes and dates are all listed below. The maps are black line prints in which the details are printed in black ink on a white background.
"The printing of these drawings and maps is a major new source of information for railroad historians, rail fans, modelers, layout planners and those who just are fascinated by these kinds of drawings. I have a complete set hanging behind my large layout in the basement of my home. They are incredibly detailed and an excellent source of information if a modeler were trying to recreate an engine terminal. The drawings clarify how yards work, and where the signals and switches were. They are of good quality and easily readable." The late James Browning, President, Tri-State Railway Preservation Society
